I'll sum it up like this: decent food that's EXTREMELY over-priced for what it is.

Great place to meet singles... Not such a great place to do your homework. Fiending for a beer & veggie sandwich before class? Not too bad.

Went here tonight to listen to a friends band. It is located on the USF campus in st Pete. They have great beer on tap, and wine. Seating inside is minimal, but the service is awesome. I can't ever say enough about people whom make you feel comfortable and welcome. Outside seating is also small and due to the rain we ended up on the porch right in front of the music. The only bad thing about that is you can't hear anything others are saying. The black bean burger was awesome!!!! I did not care for the cole slaw, but when I was done with the burger I had no room.

I don't appreciate the dog owners who, just because they're regulars, think it's OK to let their dogs run around off leash or let them bully their way up to an unfamiliar dog. Although we've had employees tell [one man in particular] them to leash their dogs, they still think it's okay to let them run amok. Staff is very pleasant, and I love great customer service , but food is mediocre at best. However, I do appreciate the time they take to cook it. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. I can't stand bad dog owners.

Nice place to hang out on USFSP campus. Wide selection of beer, including local brews. Food menu is extensive as well although I usually order rice and beans. Nice events put on nightly for your entertainment purposes. The staff is not the friendliest, but they are usually pretty efficient, so I can't complain. Overall, it's an excellent place to spend some time with friends on campus and I will keep going back for more.

May look a little rough on the outside but good food and great beer ( prices). Had a black and blue burger. A little small but really good!! The food was fresh and quite tasty.

One helluva grouper sandwich fresh from the Gulf. Our favorite is the grouper served encrusted w/the corn flakes. This and Chattaways on 4th st south are great places to stop.

The atmosphere is laid back and rough around the edges. But what do we really care about? The food. The food was lights out. Couldn't have been more impressed what came out of that tiny kitchen.

I can't believe that I've been going to the USF St. Pete campus for a year and didn't know about Tavern at Bayboro. One of the best burger and fries I've ever had. They have free wifi so I could study and since I was done with classes for the day I rewarded myself with one of the craft beers they serve. It is small on the inside but there is plenty of outdoor seating. And it's a great, friendly atmosphere. Can't wait to come back and try another dish.

Great vegetarian selection as well as hearty sandwiches for the meat eater. Throw in a cold beer and friendly service and it's a definite repeat vist place.

A true hidden gem, smack dab in the middle of USF (and downtown) St. Pete... The "Tav" features ice-cold beers (ranging from PBR to some nice crafts), tasty bar food, and superb service. Their set-up is very nice; large picnic tables flank the outdoor covered patio, and the inside has no more than 10 tables, so it's very cozy, yet comfortable. I happened to be hosting a special event and was glad I chose the Tavern. Melissa was a huge help and couldn't have been any friendlier. HIGHLY SUGGEST this place!

Best "new" spot for a quick bite and cold beer in downtown St. Pete! It's been in existence for quite some time, but ownership changed recently and I think it's definitely for the better. It's a fixture at the Bayboro USF campus and is a favorite among faculty and students before their classes (nothing like a Guinness before lecture!). I think it'll only continue to become more popular! The menu is mostly sandwiches, but they offer a wide variety of meat and vegetarian specials equally. IIf there's something you want that they don't offer, tell the manager and chances are that they'll offer it within a week. There are also 2 soups each day and a few larger "entree" type deals. There's a huge patio to relax on, along with lots of tables inside and wi-fi access. The atmosphere is what I love the most -- it's just fun, inviting, and relaxing. It's a great place to start your night if you're heading out into downtown, or to catch a USF game.

What I like: Small, intimate dining area. Value pricing, decent food most of the time. Large beer selection for a small place. Funky, collegiate, Euro soccer, airport mashup that is usually only found on or near a college campus (of course this place is on a college campus, go figure!). Daily half sandwich, soup and other specials. What I don't like: Sometimes the bread is not so fresh. About 1 in 8 sandwiches have a hard slice and a soft slice (perhaps the old loaf was used when a new one opened?). Condiments (mayo, mustard) in packages are very very low quality. The order counter is very crowded with Beer taps, cash register, soda machine and condiments that the feng shui of the place places one's emotions in a state of tension. New owner seems poorly suited to own a college restaurant/bar. Very few new offerings in the past 30 years. Recommended for: College community, downtown lunch diners and other looking for a value priced meal with no frills. Live music lovers should pay attention to the nights when musicians, bands and open mike nights are set.

Having been eating lunch here for years, mostly due to lack of anywhere else in walking distance from work. Service is not friendly, yet not horribly rude. The cuban subs are really good. And the chicken salad sandwich not bad. Soups hit or miss. Wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

Been here a couple times, always for lunch. The sandwiches are very good and you get a good portion at an affordable price! The people who work there aren't the friendliest in the world, but have never been rude so overall I give this place 3 out of 5 stars.

Blackened Grouper sandwich, Beef on weck and chili were all awesome. Good beers on tap and the staff was friendly. Love the hole in the wall appeal. Not a ton of indoor seating but there is a fair amount of outdoor under cover with fans.

We eat here at least once a week. This is our favorite place for grouper and the staff, starting with Tom the owner, and Jim the manager are always attentive.

I worked nearby here for several years. This was the ONLY place to get any food within walking distance, so I reluctantly became a lunch "regular." Think mostly deli sandwiches, salads, and soups... I was a "sometimes" lunch fan of their TWilliams or Dante sandwich. I say sometimes because what their kitchen puts out is so very inconsistent. Ugh, their bread supplier? Sometimes fresh, sometimes stale. So roll the dice and try your luck? Also, more than 50% of the time I get that dreaded old "pink-tipped" cut lettuce plopped on my sandwich. Very lame! This place seems to know most lunch diners are trapped here, because of the area's parking hassles. Few nearby have any other choices. Fake it to make it? This joint eventually forced me to make and bring nearly all of all my work-day lunches from home! As for the post-5pm crowd? All of their beers are really cheap for the area. A great place to get a buzz for cheap and hang, if you enjoy the "locals." As for the locals? If you are female, expect every hipster and older married, hippie-type guy from their local government jobs nearby here to descend like hungry vultures upon the new and naive USF freshmen ladies. I'm very glad I was able to say GOODBYE to this area, for once and for all!

OK Food Between Beers The Tavern is a nice hang-out place to have a beer and talk with friends. And if you're there for a while, you might want something to eat some food. Oh, yeah, they have that, too. The Reuben was OK, but the meat had gristly parts that made it hard to eat. The sauce needed more tang. And the bread was so crispy that it disintegrated on first bite making it hard to eat the sandwich. The Dardenne grilled grouper sandwich was OK as well. The piece of fish was kind of small. The cheese was just gummy and didn't add anything. The rosemary bun also was inadequate for the sandwich. The entire place has a student grunge feel to it.
